Where are the so-called ‘fact-checkers’ on this one? During a recent press conference, President Joe Biden made the remark that a person could purchase whatever they want when it comes to gun shows. While the comment was remarkably false, the White House’s coverup of the statement is even worse. “Most people don’t know it, you walk into a store and you buy a gun, you have a background check. But you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want and no background check,” he said.
Saying that gun shows are exempt from background check requirements is completely inaccurate. When it comes to background checks, all that matters is whether you are purchasing from a licensed dealer or not. President Biden also announced multiple extreme gun control actions which could require law abiding citizens to surrender lawful property and push the states to expand confiscation orders. This would be dismantling the Second Amendment as we speak.
President Biden also referenced that you can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater as part of the First Amendment’s free speech clause and then suggested that the Second Amendment doesn’t grant an absolute right to own all weapons either. He went on to discuss a series of gun reform orders he will be signing.
“From the very beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own. From the very beginning that the Second Amendment existed, certain people weren’t allowed to have weapons. So the idea is just bizarre to suggest that some of the things we’re recommending are contrary to the Constitution,” President Biden said.
In the series of gun reform orders, the Justice Department would be undermining ‘ghost guns,’ which can be manufactured at home with equipment that drills and folded metal parts. The kits can be put together in as little as 30 minutes. The Justice Department would also allow “red flag” laws for family members to petition from others accessing firearms “if they present a danger to themselves or others.” This would make it harder for those in abusive home situations to access a weapon for protection.
President Biden announced that he would nominate David Chipman to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Chipman served as the senior policy adviser to Giffords, a gun-violence prevention group. The Gun Owners of America Vice President Erich Pratt said that Chipman had an “anti-constitutional lobbying career” that clearly disqualifies him from holding public office.
During the daily White House press conference, a reporter asked press secretary Jen Psaki if it were the president’s belief that you do not have to undergo a background check when you are at a gun show. “No, it is not his belief. He believes that background checks should be universal,” Psaki replied. The reporter then pointed out that he said ‘no background check’ in which Psaki responded quickly that “we know what his position is, right, so let me reiterate that background checks should be universal.” I’m sure she’ll circle back to a better answer later.
President Biden knows that a series of executive orders are the only way to push his radical-left agenda and that trying to violate the Second Amendment wouldn’t work in Congress. As pointed out by Sen. Ted Cruz, “The answer is not to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, the answer is to go after violent criminals and come down on them like a ton of bricks.”
