Media and the Democrats are promoting a false perception on the fifth anniversary of the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub, in which Omar Mateen killed 49 people and injured 53 people.
There's never been any evidence that the shooting was due to it being a gay club. It's a horrible enough incident on its own, but that isn't a proven aspect of the case. Indeed, the motive, at least as expressed by Mateen, was connected to ISIS, and the U.S. actions of Obama (and Biden) in Syria.
But you wouldn't know it if you read this AP story, which doesn't mention the shooter, his name, or the Islamic terrorist connection — just talks about the “the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ community.” It also quotes Joe Biden as saying he will create a national memorial and that “the nation must acknowledge that gun violence has hurt members of the LGBTQ community.”
“We must drive out hate and inequities that contribute to the epidemic of violence and murder against transgender women — especially transgender women of color,” AP quotes Biden as saying.
If you just read the article, you'd think that gay people were targeted because they were gay, not just because it was a crowded club and he was inspired by terrorism. He had actually been scouting Disney locations, but became concerned by police there. He thought it was too secure, so he picked the club instead. There was no proof he had ever been there before or even knew it was a gay club.
But, it's one of those stories that media has been lazy at reporting the truth on or even following the facts revealed in the trial of his wife, because some were more interested in pushing the narrative.
Democratic members of Congress continued pushing that falsehood today.
If you want to honor people and remember them, honor them by telling the truth. Honor them not by making up things because it fits the narrative you want to push. Honor them because of the lives they lived and deserved to still be living today. They were killed because they were Americans — because, as best we can tell, it was an attack on America, because of Islamic terrorist influence, according to the shooter. Why is that missing from these recollections? Because some want to push a narrative, rather than the truth of what happened.
