There's definitely somebody leaking stuff on Kamala Harris, trying to warn people off of her. We've covered a few stories already about how folks are leaking what chaos there is in her office, and how some staffers even dumped her and quit.
That raises interesting questions about who's leaking — and why now. But, it also raises further concerns about her abilities. We've already seen, without those reports, that she's a disaster with how she handles things, such as how she's dealt or more exactly, not dealt with, the border crisis. With Joe Biden such a mess, her problems are obviously a deep concern when she's the back-up.
Now, there's a new report that Democrats are concerned Kamala may not have the ability to beat any of the Republicans, if Democrats put her up as the heir apparent in 2024 if Biden doesn't run for re-election.
It would stand to reason that, given how old Joe is, they would put up the back-up. But, what happens when Democrats are not feeling that back-up?
While Harris will still be the presumptive nominee if Biden becomes the first president since Lyndon Johnson to not seek a second full term, Axios reports that a series of blunders have left officials and operatives concerned.
Right now, one operative told Axios, the feeling among Democrats isn't “‘Oh, no, our heir apparent is f–ing up, what are we gonna do?' It's more that people think, ‘Oh, she's f–ing up, maybe she shouldn't be the heir apparent.'”
They see how she responded to Lester Holt in a horrible train wreck of an interview, when asked if she was going to the border and responded, “Well, I haven't been to Europe, either.” They saw how she dealt with the whole issue badly and then when she actually got to the ‘border,' it was basically a photo op, four-hour layover on her way to California.
Politico dropped a big report on the chaos that we reported on, but now Axios is going further on the chaos surrounding Kamala.
Some Democrats close to the White House are increasingly concerned about Harris's handling of high-profile issues and political tone deafness, and question her ability to maintain the coalition that Biden rode to the White House, sources tell Axios' Hans Nichols.
What we're hearing: Relations between the West Wing and the Vice President's office are tense.
Several administration officials used “shitshow” when describing Harris' office, and contrast her operation with disciplined, virtually leakproof Biden aides.
Some Biden officials view the Harris operation as poorly-managed and staffed with people who don't have long-term relationships with her. They feel she's gotten bad advice from her press and communications shop and think it's telling that she's already lost two advance aides and a digital director.
Axios said she still has her defenders, including chief spokesperson Symone Sanders, Biden adviser Cedric Richmond and White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain. As we reported earlier, even Jen Psaki is now having to provide some cover for her, refusing to answer questions about these reports.
But clearly, someone is trying to do her in, and the snowball is starting to roll downhill on her.
