NIH director Dr. Anthony Fauci hit the Sunday shows to talk about the new Omicron variant of COVID. But on “Face the Nation” with Margaret Brennan, he dropped all pretense and showed not only what an egomaniac and Democratic partisan he truly was when he declared that he represented science and that senators who dared to question him were attacking science.
In the process, Fauci tried to smear an elected U.S. senator, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to deflect from questions that Cruz raised about his actions.
Lawmakers like Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have called for Dr. Fauci to step down and be prosecuted over the course of COVID-19. Fauci scoffs at such threats, calling it "noise."

“Yeah. I have to laugh at that,” he snorted. “I should be prosecuted? What happened on Jan. 6, Senator?”
Fauci went on to claim that the people questioning him were “really criticizing science because I represent science.” He claimed they were doing something “dangerous” because it might “damage science.”
“And if you're attacking me, you're really attacking science. I mean, everybody knows that,” Fauci claimed.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) ripped apart Fauci's hubris and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) demanded that Fauci answer the question about his lying about gain-of-function research.
But they weren't quite done with Fauci's egomania yet. Paul, Cruz, and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) all hit Fox shows and eviscerated Fauci more, making some other important points in the process about his tirade.
“When a government bureaucrat has the audacity and the arrogance to say they represent all of science, we should be running the other way,” Paul told host Pete Hegseth. “It conjures up images of the Medieval Church and their repression of science. Science has nothing to do with having obedience to any kind of government dogma.”
Cotton blasted the smearing of Cruz by someone who's supposed to be a non-partisan in his position.
“It's just another example of the incompetence of the Biden administration. They think Tony Fauci remains a credible and impartial messenger about the Wuhan coronavirus. You saw this weekend, he went out and became an open partisan–attacking a sitting United States senator who is democratically elected by the people, as are the other 99 senators–as a–nothing but a bureaucrat, who works for those people who democratically elected 100 senators, attacking him in a partisan way. This is not Tony Fauci changing or turning over a new leaf; this is who he has been from the very beginning. And it is a simple fact that he testified to Congress, by the way, that he did not fund–through his agency–gain-of-function research in the Wuhan labs, making the coronaviruses there more dangerous and more transmissible. Yet his agency has since acknowledged that they did, in fact, did fund that gain-of-function research.”
Then Cruz once again finished Fauci off for how partisan he has been, “Dr. Fauci, I think, is the most dangerous bureaucrat in the history of the country … he's been dishonest, he's been political, he's been partisan, and the American people know it.”
But then he pointed out a more general problem in regard to Fauci: the failure of the media — and in this case Margaret Brennan — to hold Fauci to account for his actions.
“Instead of asking him the simple question: ‘You stated that we don't fund gain of function research, the NIH stated. We do fund gain of function research. They can't both be true. And if you lied to Congress, it's a felony. She didn't press him on that,” Cruz said. “And the reason this matters is there is a lot of circumstantial evidence to suggest that the U.S. government participated in funding research modifying coronaviruses that could well have led to COVID 19. And if that's true, that is stunning and indefensible.”
That's the greater question that they don't want anyone to get to because they don't want to answer it. It's the question on which the media should be pressing Fauci and the Biden administration because the American people are owed those answers. But the media isn't even troubled by his claims to be “science” or his raw partisan smear job effort against Cruz. They should be querying Joe Biden as to why Fauci is still employed when he acts like this (not to mention when he's been wrong so often). Instead, members of the media are just lapping up everything he says like obedient sheep, whether it makes sense or not.
But a reckoning may be coming for Fauci when the Republicans take back the Congress and he will finally have to answer.
