Democrats and Never Trumpers just can't let the Jan. 6 riot go, even though it only lasted a few hours. They wear it like a holy hair shirt, as the one thing they think they can use to stick it to politicians on the right, although no member of the GOP has ever endorsed the riot. My colleague Mike Miller hit on this obsession in his stories about why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) can't quit Jan. 6 , and how the New York Times is now saying that “Every Day is Jan. 6.”
They do this while completely ignoring the organized and continued BLM/Antifa leftist rioting that lasted for months and continues. That rioting expressly targeted local and federal government/law enforcement, attacking hundred of officers and federal buildings, resulting in millions in damage. Dozens of people were killed during the riots. Democrats have endorsed and embraced the BLM, while even denying the existence of Antifa. The media has downplayed the severity of the violence, calling it “mostly peaceful” protests.
Part of the reason for this is to deflect from how horrible Joe Biden is. They know they are in deep trouble come the midterms because of all his bad actions from Afghanistan to inflation. What they want with the Jan. 6 Committee is months of what they hope is damaging live testimony, attacking Republicans, because that's the whole objective here — hurt Republicans.
But there's also another specific purpose for all this spectacle they hope to gin up over the three-hour riot.
Rep. Liz Cheney (RINO-WY) did an interview on “Face the Nation” today and let it slip.
According to a transcript of the program, host Margaret Brennan asked Cheney about running again in Wyoming. Cheney is likely toast in her election, as she is incredibly unpopular for throwing in with the Democrats over this.
We know the former president endorsed your primary opponent. He's promised to help campaign against you. You have one of his biggest donors, Peter Thiel, a billionaire throwing money behind your primary opponent. This is a direct challenge here.
Given how red your state is, how do you expect to win that primary?
Cheney said the quiet part out loud in response, saying her purpose was to make sure that President Donald Trump was never elected again. “This is a man who is simply too dangerous ever to play a role again in our democracy,” Cheney claimed. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue to help the American people see the facts about what happened and to continue to make the case at home about the kind of representation that we need in Washington for the people of Wyoming.”
Then Brennan asked if Cheney intended to run for president against Trump in 2024.
“I'm very focused right now on my re-election and on the work of the select committee,” Cheney responded. “I can tell you that that the single most important thing, though, is to ensure that Donald Trump is not the Republican nominee and that he certainly is not anywhere close to the Oval Office ever again.”
Can it get any plainer? That's what this is about. They are trying to tag him any way they can with this effort, except they're not doing a very good job of it. The latest push of the “texts” with lawmakers was laughable because what it showed was no one knew what was going to happen, everyone was concerned and wanted it stopped. Indeed, they were exonerating rather than incriminating. The Committee then doctored them to try to make them look worse.
You can't get blood from a stone, and you can't make up something that isn't there. The Jan. 6 Committee surely is going to try. But Americans have already shown they are hip to the deflection efforts going on here, and it isn't going to save the Democrats or the Never Trumpers like Cheney from being defeated in 2022.
