Ari Melber hosts a show named, The Beat, on MSNBC, and, like most of his ideological co-workers and colleagues, he is Concerned(TM) about the fate of Twitter under Elon Musk.
In what is the most shocking absence of self-awareness and cognitive dissonance ever to be committed in the media, Melber took to the air on Monday to share his worries about the disappearance of a fair playing field on Twitter. Melber was concerned that one person who owns all of a site such as Twitter would not have to be transparent. That person might be able to in secretly block people they dislike or ban them completely in a second and, gasp*, “turn down their reach.” Then, no one would be aware of certain information until after elections!
“If you own all of Twitter or Facebook or what have you, you don't have to explain yourself. You don't even have to be transparent. You could secretly ban one party's candidate or all of its candidates, all of its nominees. Or you could just secretly turn down the reach of their stuff, turn up the reach of something else. The rest of us might not even find out about it until after the election.”
Who wants to talk to Melber first?
It's hard to imagine that a journalist on his own TV show does not know that this is the case for conservatives ever since Trump was barred from Twitter. Do you know that guy? He was the president of the United States. A politician. Banned.
Maybe Melber hasn't heard about the Trump ban or the suspension of the New York Post for reporting the Hunter Biden laptop story, or the Project Veritas ban for the offense of actually doing journalism.
As conservatives complained about being targeted, shadow-banned, and purged following the January 6 controversy, liberal media personalities mocked them and called them hysterical nuts who were reacting too quickly to the usual bot purge.
If you don't want to be here, you can make your own system. We all have heard that advice.
Now, the shoe is on the other foot but nothing is happening on the left. Nobody is being purified. Nobody has been removed from the list. Elon isn't sweeping through the headquarters wielding a magic weapon and removing liberal accounts of existence. Elon doesn't even have formal ownership of Twitter as of yet. However, Twitter's current owners, and the Ari Melbers of the world, are fearful that a bad CEO could make use of Twitter to suppress the voices of his ideological and political opponents and even censor politicians.
Many have asked whether this is a parody or some other kind of deep fake. This is not. The man said it in public, using his mouth. Check it out for yourself.
