Rachel Maddow Only Works One Day a Week as MSNBC Is Declining

MSNBC ratings continue to fall since as its most popular anchor, Rachel Maddow, now only makes appearances on Mondays despite the fact that she has signed a 30 million-per-year contract. Maddow seems to be aligned with Apple workers, which, as we reported on Monday, believe that having to go to work is a burden too heavy to take on.

Don't worry, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is allegedly joining the ranks of the network's liberal cable channel to bring it back to its former glory.

There are of course ethical concerns about Psaki's actions in light of the fact that Psaki remains the official spokesperson for President Biden, but she dismisses them.

“I have always gone over and above the stringent ethical requirements of the Biden administration,” Psaki declared on April 1. “So I hope that all of you, I've been working with all of you for some time, would judge me for my record and how I treat all of you both in the briefing room and otherwise.”

RealClearPolitics President Tom Bevan disagrees:

While Maddow is probably at home relaxing, MSNBC still calls the 9pm time slot “The Rachel Maddow Show,” but it's filled-in hosts like Ali Velshi and Ayman Mohyeldin. According to Variety:

In April, Maddow began to trim her role as host of MSNBC and shift from five days a week to only hosting on Mondays. Maddow is shifting her schedule following signing a new contract with NBCUniversal that grants her authority over a wider array of initiatives that include podcasts and films.

“I do still have all these other irons in the fire, all these other things I'm working on that I want to bring to fruition, none of them are fast, all of them take a long time, and I'm still working on all of them,” Maddow stated on her MSNBC show Monday evening.

We wait with anticipation. The ratings for her show have fallen dramatically according to rival Fox News:

Maddow's decision to limit her appearances on her show to one day per week follows her month with the lowest ratings since the demo in November of 2015. Between April 4 and 8, the show had its lowest-rated week since 2016, with an average of approximately 1.3 million people. “The Rachel Maddow Show” averaged 2.7 million viewers in the same period in 2021 as she hosted every night. In addition, she had an average of 2 million daily viewers in January 2022, before she changed her schedule.

Joy Reid has been enduring the same experience. Mediaite reports:

The month of April was Reid's lowest-rated month in its history. The ReidOut show averaged 1 million viewers, which is a decline of 31% over the April of last year. Reid is down 51% from the show's debut in July of 2020.

Nicolle Wallace and Chris Hayes did slightly better, although not significantly. Fox News soundly thumped them both during the same time slots.

Maddow was famously known for her efforts to push the discredited Russian collusion theory and Joy Reid suffered her own scandals after a homophobic post written by her was exposed. Lyin' Brian Williams, who was once banned for inventing stories, has resigned from his talk show “The 11th Hour” and is now looking for new opportunities. Who's left? It looks like it's up to cringeworthy Joe and Mika as well as Jen Psaki to save the day.

The outlook for MSNBC is looking dim. In light of CNN+ crashing and burning in recent weeks, it is clear that the interest in liberal-leaning cable news outlets is declining among the general people. It's not surprising that they've been operating in the shadow of Joe Biden and essentially serving as a part of the Democratic National Committee for years. With no Trump to slam, CNN and MSNBC are left to rant about racism, proclaim “the world's end is coming” and to say that all our problems are caused by the white supremacy. I'm not sure why this isn’t working.
