On Friday, during the U.S. Naval Academy graduation, President Joe Biden declared at the beginning of his speech that he was appointed to the Academy by J. Caleb Boggs in 1965. Boggs was the man whom Biden later ran against in the 1972 Delaware Senate election.
“Before I begin my speech, a thought came to mind when I was told the Class of ’72 is here,” Biden told the crowd. “I was called to the academy in 1965 by a senator I was running against in 1972.” The president went on to say that he was only 29 years old when he ran against J. Caleb Boggs. “I didn’t come to the academy because I wanted to be a football star,” the president continued. “And you had a guy here named Staubach and Bellino. So I went to Delaware.”
This is a ridiculous claim, as Biden was a graduate of the University of Delaware in 1965. And, of course, Roger Staubach also graduated from the Academy in 1965, as did Joe Bellino in 1961. The timing simply doesn't make sense. He was also granted five student deferments in the 1960s and was deemed to be “unfit” because of asthma in 1968. He even said during the graduation ceremony that Boggs had remarked during a debate that had Biden gone to the Naval Academy, he would have been sidelined the year of their race.
In fact, Joe Biden—the one who's constantly pumped up—has not spoken about it before. Biden has a habit of lying about things in order to appeal to any audience he is in front of. It's somewhat scary that he appears to live in a different world in which he makes things up from scratch that have no foundation in the real world. That's the guy who is in charge today. Imagine telling Naval graduates about the possibility of a Naval appointment. What kind of person would you be?
However, the way in which the White House addressed (or failed to confront) the lies made matters worse and shows how little concern they have for honesty or truth to the American people.
When CBS's Ed O'Keefe questioned the president’s lies, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre seemed to want to be somewhere else while she listened to the questions. Her response? She claimed that she didn't understand that portion of the speech and would have to take a look at it before commenting.
Does she not know her job, which is precisely that–to clarify what Biden says and the policies of Biden and the White House? Didn't she listen to his words? This makes the situation even more difficult. It was evident that there was going to be a query from someone due to the attention it received over the weekend.
It's a straightforward question. Either he actually got an appointment and can describe how this somehow seems reasonable, or she just ignores the issue because she is unable to explain the lie. And they're now hoping that everyone will forget about it and not bother to follow up on it.
