Biden Administration Orders Part of Border Wall to be Completed in Arizona

The Biden administration announced on Thursday that the Yuma Morelos Dam Project in Arizona was to be completed. This would “close four gaps” along the porous southern border.

The Associated Press reported that the initiative was supported by the previous president's administration. It vindicated conservatives who supported stronger security in the region.

The Department of Homeland Security said that the initiative will lessen the risk for immigrants, since “the area presents safety and life hazard risks,” according to the declaration.

Of course, no one should think that the administration will boast about this since they were not a fan of building the border wall. On the first day of his administration, Biden demanded the “pause” of construction of the border wall and canceled other immigration policies of the Trump era. The swift action arguably fuelled the current border crisis which is why the move to plug the gaps in Yuma is too late. Materials were left at the border, but they could've been used to be used to stop the humanitarian disaster that has afflicted border communities.

For the year fiscal 2022, which runs through September, there were more than 235,230 encounters with migrants according to Customs and Border Protection statistics. This is the third-highest sector, since it is just behind that of the Rio Grande Valley and Del Rio sectors in Texas.

According to the Yuma-based KYMA published on Wednesday, the surge of people crossing the border places a huge burden on local authorities since they are required to perform the obligations in a way that federal authorities can't.

Arizona and Texas have both taken many measures to solve the border issue and even transported migrants by bus across the border to East Coast cities such as Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser directed that the National Guard to assist with the flow of people to which Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (R-Ariz.) have made clear that the cities haven’t received even half of what their smaller towns have had to deal with RedState's Nick Arama wrote.

“Washington D.C. finally understands what Texans have been dealing with every single day, as our communities are overrun by thousands of illegal immigrants,” Abbott declared according to Fox News.

Ducey identified the facts that led to the crisis in his criticism of Bowser.

“Mayor Bowser is lamenting 4,000 migrants — Arizona had 43,570 border encounters in June alone,” Bowser tweeted.

The administration is not worthy of recognition for only the minimum at the border. The neglect is an injustice for Customs and Border Patrol agents, local authorities, and the people of the Southwest.
