Teacher Fired for Refusal to Read LGBTQ Book

Stories like this are popping up daily. School districts, despite public outrage from parents, continue to insist on educating children to radical leftist views on race as well as sexuality and gender identity.

Parents who oppose this trend have been portrayed as bigots who refuse to let this type of training occur. However, teachers too are under the gun – particularly those who refuse to be forced into indoctrinating pupils with such notions.

An elementary school located in California has fired a teacher for refusing to read books on gay marriage to students aged between one and five. The Thomas More Society filed a suit for discrimination based on religion against Bright Horizon, a national childcare firm. The suit also claims the retaliation of harassment and discrimination.

The teacher, named Nalli Parinsenkova, worked for Studio City for four years. The lawsuit claims that after the director of this facility was aware of the teacher's Christian convictions and beliefs, they “enforced company policy requiring all teachers to support and promote celebrations of ‘diversity' including same-sex marriage to children in the care program.”

The teacher alleges that the director abused her and demanded that security remove her from the premises “like a dangerous criminal.” The director then fired her when she asked for her to not be forced to read the books to students due to her religious beliefs.

The matter came up in April of 2018 when Parinsenkova discovered that the classroom that she was teaching in contained LGBTQ content. In her lawsuit, she asserts that she brought her concerns to the director and was met by the director with “an informal accommodation that she would not be required to read books to the children promoting same-sex marriage.”

On April 20, 2022, the director, of whom as a gay woman, discovered that Parinsenkova was an orthodox Christian, reported her to Human Resources.

“Bright Horizons did not engage in any negotiations and made no attempt whatsoever to determine whether a reasonable accommodation could be reached,” the lawsuit states. “Instead, Bright Horizons issued a counseling memo with false statements, terminated her life-insurance benefits, required her to complete retraining in diversity issues, and encouraged her to resign her position.”

Paul Jonna, the attorney representing the teacher, claimed in a press release her dismissal had been “unethical” and “blatantly illegal.”

“Make sure you know what books are on the shelf in our children's care programs and schools,” the lawyer added. “This is a clear-cut case of one of the largest childcare employers in the country having anti-religious workplace policies that promote indoctrination of young children with the LGBT agenda.”

This is just one of the many instances where teachers were punished for not collaborating with the progressive agendas in their schools. In the past I had a conversation with an educator who was in Colorado who was punished for refusing to acknowledge a Transgender students gender identification.

A lot of teachers who promote this idea are indoctrinated. There are others who have a tendency to follow because they are afraid of being fired or getting rejected. The hard left is known to be a victim of anxiety and therefore this isn't an incredibly shocking development. However, if more educators challenge their legal systems, it may cause at least some districts pause when they contemplate the possibility of forcing teachers to agree to a cause that they don't like.
