It's official. The Republicans have taken control of the House of Representatives. Based on Decision Desk HQ, the GOP will control at least 218 seats after the results of another race that went to their advantage.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has been dethroned. The seat that led Republicans to victory is in California's third congressional district, won by Kevin Kiley, who has been a vocal critic of the state’s governor, Gavin Newsom.
With their strong showings in the remaining races, it's probable the GOP will have at least 220 seats and could end up with 221. Lauren Boebert in CO-3 is currently leading but is waiting for the “curing” period to end. There are other races across California that are expected to go Republican, including Mike Garcia’s seat.
This isn't all that Republicans were hoping for. However, it's still something. The advantages of winning are greater than the disadvantages of losing. And when you win the House, you have the power to control the committee's assignments, floor votes, and investigations. There are going to be lots of interesting events happening in the coming two years. Buckle up, and take in the spectacle.
