Leftwing Firebomber Gets Light Sentence Thanks to Biden DOJ

It is possible to recall the story of two young New York lawyers — Urooj Rahman and Colinford Mattis — who were part of a firebomb assault on a NYPD van during the BLM riots in New York City, on May 30, 2020. What was peculiar about the incident was that instead of being criticized by the media for what they did, they were able to receive favorable coverage from left-wing media owing to their connections to elite people.

The defendants have received a lot of acceptance and support from the city's media and legal elites. Rahman has been represented by one of New York's top defense attorneys, as well as a former Obama administration official who arranged for her bail of $250,000. Both were the subject of favorable reviews from New York Magazine and NPR as well as other publications.

Yahoo News even ran a fake story that claimed that they would be facing “45 years for vandalism.”

Rahman was sentenced Friday.

The two admitted guilt in the year 2020 and were expected to receive 10 years in prison, along with an enhancement for terrorism. Then, they were able to escape when the Biden Department of Justice intervened.

In mid-May, the same professional DOJ prosecutor advocated for a 10-year sentence in court to withdraw their plea agreement and negotiate a new one which allowed defendants to admit to lesser charges of conspiracy. It eliminates the terrorist enhancement completely.

In the case of the new charge, the defendants were only facing only a maximum term time of 5 years. With regard to Urooj Rahman, the Biden DOJ did not recommend a 18-24-month sentence in light of what they called the “history and personal characteristics” of the defendant. However, the final sentence that was handed on Friday was just 15 months with two years of release with supervision.

“History and personal characteristics.”

They were not only involved in the incident, witnesses also claimed that Rahman tried to hand out other devices to people. The interview was conducted at the time the bomb exploded and said that the “only way they hear us is through violence.” This would never cease until they “f**king take it all down.”

From the NY Post:

“I hope they burn everything down,” Rahman said to Mattis in a tweet shortly before the protests started. “Need to burn all the police stations down… probably all the courts too.”

When Rahman was among the protesters the night before the activist wrote Mattis: “Throwing bottles and tear gas … lit some fires but were put out … fireworks goin and Molotovs rollin.”

“Go burn down 1PP” Mattis replied. “Bring it to their [sic] neck.”

The woman also “announced with a smiley face emoji that her rock had struck a police officer,” according to the prosecutors.

The lawyers of her defense claim that she deserves less time in prison due to the “commitment to social justice” and she claimed that she was suffering from “unprocessed trauma” from being a Muslim following the 9/11 attacks.

These are the individuals who the Biden DOJ intervened for.

James Trusty, a former prosecutor for the Criminal Division of the Justice Department, told The Washington Free Beacon that Rahman was treated with “extraordinarily unusual treatment by the DOJ.”

“I have a hard time thinking general deterrence is well served by swapping in a soft plea agreement to justify light treatment for someone who bombed a police car,” Trusty claimed. “This same Department of Justice would likely take quite a different stance if this had been a defendant throwing Molotov cocktails in Washington, D.C., on January 6.”

The problem is that what Trusty says is true. If the two would have committed the crime on Jan. 6th and were caught, they would be imprisoned and the keys would be thrown away. We've seen a completely different approach to this and the other riots of leftists have been dealt with compared to the Jan. 6 case. That's what's wrong in this kind of “justice” that we're seeing at present. It's just one of the numerous issues caused by Biden's Biden team that has destroyed the impartiality of our rule of law.
