Remember the moment when leftists melted down as Elon Musk became the new CEO of Twitter? Democrats and media activists were shocked and furious, insisting that this would result in rabid white supremacy on Twitter.
After a noticeable increase in the usage of the “n-word” on the platform, they used this as evidence that Musk's emphasis on freedom of speech was likely to inspire the racist elements of society – even though this happened before the new CEO changed the algorithm or the content-moderation policy.
However, when it became apparent that the spike was the result of a couple hundred accounts, the majority of which were bots, the story started to unravel in the same way as it has with the majority of left-wing hoaxes.
It appears that the platform now has this non-issue under check. This week, Musk posted a tweet that included a chart of the reach of tweets that fall under the “hate speech” category, which has declined to a point that is lower than it was before Musk became the CEO of the company. “Hate speech impressions down by 1/3 from pre-spike levels. Congrats to Twitter team!” he tweeted.
Musk added that 1,500 accounts were responsible for the increase in the usage of the n-word.
It appears Twitter solved the problem by reducing the number of tweets users are allowed to post per day: “Reducing the max allowed tweets/day to a number below what a speed typist on meth could do was helpful.”
As the incidence of racial slurs accelerated on Twitter, media outlets that were part of the activist community took notice, publishing articles on how racist the social media platform was becoming due to Big Bad Musk. The Washington Post and other prominent “news” organizations were quick to highlight the increase.
They were so indignant about the use of the n-word that it raises the question of how they will report on this latest trend. Are they going to issue reports letting their readers know that Twitter has brought the problem under control? In all likelihood, they'll be thrilled to learn that Musk has solved the issue, right?
However, we know they will not. It is shocking to even acknowledge this. Why? Progressives don't have a problem with racism. They do not see the issue of bigotry as one that must be addressed, but rather as a weapon that can be used against their political opponents. They only care about race when they are able to make use of it to attack people like Musk who hold different views. Thus, it's likely that we will not hear much, if anything at all, regarding this story from the once-famous Fourth Estate.
