The excuses made by the Biden Administration in the past year and a half in answer to questions regarding why President Joe Biden has never visited the southern border are examples of the best ways to not handle issues of major public importance, let alone confront them in front of the media.
One such instance is when then-White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki laughably claimed that Biden actually visited the border at least once, when, in fact, the “visit” was a drive-by while he was on his way to an October 2008 campaign stop in New Mexico.
More recently, Biden hit southern border states with a slap in their faces when he told Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy on Tuesday, ahead of a planned visit to the location of the new computer-chip manufacturing plant in Arizona, that “there are more important things going on” than the border crisis.
These terrible explanations for why Biden just can't bring himself to go out and see things for himself keep coming. For example, Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), in a segment of Fox News' America Reports program on Tuesday, totally humiliated herself—and Joe Biden in the process—in the way she replied to Shannon Smith's questions about whether she believed he should go to the border.
In a nutshell, Dingell, obviously annoyed, stated to Smith that Biden was not required to travel to the border because he had handlers (admin officials) who would go and then report back to him on what they observed. “He's seen the photos,” she said. She also criticized the “fixation” on the “little issue” of seeking to understand why the president of the United States has not made a point of showing up in person to witness the border problems.
Smith was then able to turn the tables on Dingell, humiliating her by asking her to clarify her remarks regarding the matter being a “small issue,” comments that suggested that the issue was not important enough to merit an official visit from the head of the free world.
Dingell was obviously discomfited by Smith's subsequent comment and suggested in her response that perhaps in the future, Biden will travel to the southern border. However, the representative later repeated her claim that it shouldn't be viewed as a major issue by anyone who realizes he hasn't.
There is something Joe Biden can do to rid himself of the criticism he receives over his apparent lack of interest in what's going on in states along the southern border: Visit the border. And not a drive-by, and certainly not a fly-by. Go, and see the harm the policies of your administration have created.
Perhaps that's why he has not yet left. Because he doesn't want to discover the fact that those “solutions” have made everything even worse. It is logical, is it not? From a political standpoint. However, those living in border states continue to have to pay the real cost.
