Florida Senator Marco Rubio's office published an announcement on Tuesday announcing a bipartisan legislation that he's introduced to stop TikTok across the United States. Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) submitted similar legislation.
The Chinese subsidiary company, ByteDance, is required by Chinese law to make the data of the app accessible to members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The entire spectrum of authorities from the FBI Director, to FCC Commissioners, to experts in cybersecurity all have made it clear the dangers of TikTok being used to track Americans.
The Averting the national threat from Internet Surveillance, Obstruction of Censorship and Influence and Algorithmic Learning through the Chinese Communist Party Act (ANTI-SOCIAL CCP Act) could safeguard Americans from censorship by preventing the transactions of any social media business operating in or under the influence of China, Russia, and many other countries that are of concern.
Gallagher says TikTok is “digital fentanyl that is addictive to Americans” and threatening national security through manipulation of opinion and influence.
“TikTok is a digital fentanyl which is addictive to Americans by accumulating a wealth of their personal data and censoring their information. It's also a growing media company controlled by ByteDance which, in the end, has a direct relationship with the Chinese Communist Party – America's most formidable adversary. If the app is allowed to continue to function inside America, this would be like permitting the U.S.S.R. to acquire some of the New York Times, Washington Post and important broadcasting networks in the Cold War. A country that even has any concern for its security would permit this to occur, and that's the reason it's imperative to stop TikTok as well as any other CCP-controlled apps before it's too late.”
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is legally required by Chinese law to provide all of their technology and data for China's Chinese Communist Party.
