Actor Jeremy Renner has been seriously injured in a snowplow-related crash at his residence in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. According to the entertainment site TMZ, Renner was injured while trying to remove snow off his property with a Snowcat plow.
The neighbors have reported that Renner was clearing a path on Sunday morning from his home towards the street after an enormous New Year's Eve snowstorm when the snowcat ran him over and he suffered a substantial blood loss and severe injuries to one leg. A doctor living nearby was able to create an emergency tourniquet to prevent the bleeding as he was waiting for emergency responders. TMZ reports that Renner had to be transported by air to the hospital in Nevada and is being treated for what local officials call “traumatic injuries.”
Renner's publicist, Samantha Mast, said of the incident: “As of now, we can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today,” The actor's family was by his side and he has received “excellent care.”
Renner became famous in the 2008 film The Hurt Locker, where Renner played an army explosive ordnance removal team that was tasked with the destruction of one IED during the war in Iraq. Renner is best known because of his role as Hawkeye who is a member of the Avengers in a variety of Marvel Cinematic Universe films and TV shows.
TMZ says that an insider close to Renner claims that Renner's injuries have been described as “extensive” and involve one of his legs as well as other areas of his body. Authorities in Nevada have taken possession of the Snowcat to find out why its failsafe mechanisms didn't work.
