A fireworks display occurred when Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) was on Joy Reid's MSNBC show. One of the topics they discussed was the fact that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had pledged to remove three Democrats from their committees: Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) from the Intel Committee and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the Foreign Affairs Committee.
However, Swalwell attempted to convince Americans about the reason he was being kicked out. Swalwell claimed Donalds confessed to Reid that he was being removed “purely out of vengeance.”
This was a complete fabrication, as the transcript revealed. Donalds was not the one who spoke of “vengeance”; that was Reid's flimsy spin.
What Donalds said was that if Democrats want to alter the rules (about allowing or not allowing certain people to serve on committees), they will “live by your rules.”
The former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), modified the rules after she refused to include the nominees Republicans had suggested to the January 6 Committee, and she also “changed the rules” by giving committee members such as Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) the boot. Joy Reid was quiet about the “vengeance” displayed in these situations when it was all about making the committees as “anti-Trump” as possible in order to take him down.
The fact is that not only did Donalds not discuss vengeance, but he also didn't indicate that Swalwell’s removal was “purely” because of the ways in which Democrats had altered the rules. As McCarthy stated, there were compelling reasons to send Swalwell packing as he was unable to obtain security clearances (due to his previous relationships with a Chinese spy), so it was impossible to leave him on such a crucial committee.
However, that says something about Swalwell in itself: Either the man isn't able to discern what he heard on the Reid show, or he is not telling the truth to his audience. Whatever the case, he's an unfit choice for the Intel Committee, on top of his inability to discern a Chinese spy.
Swalwell received a snub from the majority of the internet after he tried to sell them a bill of goods as the reason for his booting. Nobody was interested in the fallacy he was trying to push, and he was subsequently ignored.
Dave Rubin posted an interview that he’d had with Kevin McCarthy, and McCarthy went to town on Swalwell right out of the gate. You can watch it on Rubin’s Twitter feed.
